PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink residual quantity display method whereby an ink residual quantity of an ink-jet type printer with an ink storage tank set also at a head part is displayed appropriately. SOLUTION: At the time when the ink residual quantity of the ink-jet printer which carries out printing by supplying ink to the ink storage tank of the head part from an ink cartridge and by discharging the ink in the ink storage tank from nozzles of the head part is displayed at a display of a host computer, at least an illustration 6 of the ink cartridge which clearly shows the ink residual quantity, and an illustration 7 of the ink storage tank which clearly shows the ink residual quantity are displayed at the use time of the ink-jet printer. Not only the ink residual quantity of the ink cartridge, but the ink residual quantity of the ink storage tank of the head part are made to be detected simply and clearly, so that the ink residual quantity can be managed appropriately.
