<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To complete composting in a short time by maintaining the environment suitable for the action of bacteria by a simple apparatus and the minimum amount of energy charge by utilizing fermentation germ existing in nature. <P>SOLUTION: A mushroom bed, e.g. chips of conifers, is charged together with a composting subject C into a composting space 3 formed in a container 1, and the environment of the composting space 3 is controlled by an air blower 8 for blowing air from the outside to the inside of the composting space 3 and by using the temperature and CO<SB>2</SB>concentration as control parameters, thus promoting the composting.
