PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device with a relatively simple circuit configuration and capable of lighting a cold cathode electrode discharge lamp effectively suppressing the occurrence of a cataphoresis phenomenon. SOLUTION: This discharge lamp lighting device is provided with an inverter main circuit INV constituted including a pair of switching elements Q1, Q2 switching by turns, a boost chopper circuit BUC comprising both or one of the pair of switching elements Q1, Q2, an inductor L1 and a feedback circuit FBC, a load circuit LC provided with a resonant circuit RC resonating with high-frequency AC voltage outputted by the inverter main circuit INV, a high frequency inverter HFI provided with a control means CC setting on-duty in switching by one switching element Q1 less than 50% and on-duty in switching by the other switching element Q2 not less than 50%, and a cold cathode discharge lamp DL connected with the load circuit LC of the high frequency inverter HFI.
