The rotating electric machine includes a rotor (8) and a stator (10) radially situated either inside or outside the rotor, and coaxial with it. One of these parts (rotor and stator) comprises a number of permanent magnets (14) and the other has notches accommodating at least two sets of windings supplied with alternating current of different phases. The windings are distributed amongst the notches around the teeth which extend radially between the successive notches. The notches and the teeth are grouped into electrical sectors. Each phase corresponds to a spatially distinct electrical sector. The electrical sectors may be formed in at least two coaxial blocks, the blocks being adjacent but separated along the length of the axis.
