<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize the range for performing failure restoration control when switching is made to a substitute path at the failure end. <P>SOLUTION: When a preliminary path is calculated for failure restoration, an alternative path is calculated by providing a value larger than the sum of weight of all links existing in a communication network except th links of the relevant communication network for the calculation of a currently used objective section [m, m+1].
