<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set the number of splits in particular in a subsidiary scanning direction and print at high speeds without reducing the number of gradation by changing the exposure time in the printing of the same dots for the split subsidiary scanning direction lines with a printing device performing a printing process based on image data including tone information. <P>SOLUTION: The printing device splits dot data in a subsidiary scanning direction, sets two impacts, three impacts or the like, reads corresponding pattern data from a dot pattern data generation section based on an instruction for splitting and sends monotone or multi-gradation image data to a gradation head in a dot data control section 32.
