<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavefront control element with which high speed optical switching independent of a polarization state of incident light is achieved by using a blue phase liquid crystal or a polymer stabilized blue phase liquid crystal. <P>SOLUTION: The wavefront control element 10 makes a wavefront of light passing through the liquid crystal 14 be varied according to a voltage value applied to the liquid crystal, and has the cholesteric blue phase liquid crystal 14 interposed between a pair of transparent substrates 11, 13, electrodes 15, 16 disposed uniformly or in a divided manner at least on the one surface of the transparent substrates 11, 13 and a power supply 18 to apply a voltage to the cholesteric blue phase liquid crystal via the electrodes 15, 16. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
