PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cleaning a liquid jetting head and a method for cleaning a liquid jetting apparatus both capable of decreasing an amount of consumption of a liquid. SOLUTION: In a printer, by performing steps S2 and S3, a condition where a negative pressure is not loaded on a nozzle of a recording head is obtained, and then, air is sucked from a cap member through a cap opening valve by driving a gear pump. In this case, when a waste ink by a previous cleaning action remains in a tube connected to the cap member or a gear pump, this waste ink is made to flow into the first ink cartridge accompanying an air flow, and is absorbed in an ink absorbent body.
