PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging device capable of recording high quality image data or long-time motion picture data without preparing a large quantity of recording media, thereafter printing out desired image data, simply editing the long-time motion picture data, and further simply grouping a large quantity of image data; and to provide a method of image edition. SOLUTION: High quality image data based on video signals of still images or motion pictures recorded by an image photographing device is recorded in an external recording means with large recording capacity. The high quality data are deleted from a recording means with small recording capacity of the image photographing device, and only the reduced data of the video signals is left.
