PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an occupant protection device for a vehicle capable of exhibiting suitable driver protection effect regardless of displacement of a steering wheel in a longitudinal direction. SOLUTION: A steering column 7 is forwardly or rearwardly shifted from a standard position by operation of a telescopic operation device 11. Thereby, even if, for example, the steering wheel 8 for storing an air bag 9 is forwardly or rearwardly shifted, deployment mode of the air bag 9 can be suitably changed in response to the shift amount.
