PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide device having excellent element characteristics. SOLUTION: In the optical waveguide comprising a clad and a core having a tapered part of which the thickness is gradually changed along the longitudinal direction of the waveguide, the core has the width gradually increasing and the thickness gradually thinning toward one side along the waveguide longitudinal direction.
