PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus equipped with a grinding device capable of removing a filming material formed on an image carrier, which is improved so that the grinding device can be driven and rotated to the maximum with simple constitution. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has the image carrier 6 for carrying a toner image, a cleaning device 9 for recovering toner remaining on the image carrier after the toner image is transferred to a transfer medium, and the grinding device 100 for removing the filming material on the surface of the image carrier. In the image forming apparatus. The grinding device 100 has a grinding means 130, rocking levers 110 on both sides, mounting arms 170 for holding the rocking levers in a turnable state at prescribed positions, and a plurality of one-way clutches 120 and 190 provided on the rocking shafts of the rocking levers and the mounting arms. The locus of the image carrier 6 is changed between a working position and a standby position, whereby the rocking lever 110 is rocked to rotate the grinding means intermittently in one direction.
