PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce resonation of a small gear side bearing lid by vibration of a gear box generated by rotation by meshing of a large gear and a small gear. SOLUTION: This gear device 3 for a railway vehicle enhances rigidity of a plate part of the bearing lid 3ca so that a natural frequency of the small gear 3aa side bearing lid 3ca becomes larger than a meshing frequency of the large gear 3b and the small gear 3aa corresponding to a maximum vehicle speed of the railway vehicle. Thus, vibration of its gear box, further, noise generated by this vibration, can be minimized without causing a change in a basic constitution of the gear device for the railway vehicle and a large weight increase.
