<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motion estimating method and apparatus for processing an image to be inserted between a preceding source image and a succeeding source image in an image sequence. <P>SOLUTION: Each image is divided into pixel blocks related to a motion vector. With respect to the present block of an image under processing, a vector related to the block of the image under processing and/or a vector related to a block of a processed image is selected (step 101). Candidate vectors are generated from the selected vector (step 102). Errors are calculated for each candidate vector (step 103). Penalty is determined, based on the value of a pixel of a pixel block which is in the preceding source image and in which candidate motion vectors point out the current block therefrom and/or based on the pixel value of a pixel block which is in the succeeding source image and is pointed out from the current block by candidate motion vectors (step 104). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
