Preparation of omega -monomeric hydroxycarboxylic acids (having high purity and free from dimers or oligomers) from their lactones or omega -alkyl hydroxycarboxylates (II), comprises basic hydrolysis of (II) leading to a salt followed by acidification and treatment at (-)10-50[deg]C or by lyophilization.
