A polymer which is fluorescent in the solid state, has a weight- average molecular weight of 103-108 in terms of polystyrene, and has repeating units selected from the group consisting of arylene groups, divalent heterocyclic groups and divalent aromatic amine groups is characterized in that an unsaturated hydrocarbon group having no aromatic ring is directly bonded to either one of the repeating units at least at one end of the main chain of the polymer.
