PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fingerprint authentication apparatus that, when one of a plurality of fingerprint authentication devices such as fingerprint authentication terminals has failed, executes fingerprint authentication action using the other normal fingerprint authentication devices. SOLUTION: When one of the fingerprint authentication devices malfunctions, data from the other fingerprint authentication devices are selected and combined through the operation of a device 5 for selecting the fingerprint authentication device to be operated. The fingerprint authentication action by the normal fingerprint authentication devices combined is instructed by a malfunction control means 12. This prevents the failure of one of the fingerprint authentication devices from generating loss of fingerprint authentication data or stopping the entire fingerprint authentication apparatus thereby disabling identification of a person to be authenticated, and maintains the function of authenticating any particular individual even when one of the fingerprint authentication devices has failed.
