PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely detect the interface of the predetermined liquid in a container by a small-sized inexpensive apparatus constitution without being affected by the label or the like on the surface of the container. SOLUTION: When the specimen liquid 102 in a blood collecting pipe 101 is irradiated with the laser beam 3a from a laser irradiator 3 from above, the incoming laser beam 3a is not almost scattered in a serum 103 of low light scattering properties and the light detection intensity at the part of the serum 103 due to an imaging device 4 becomes low. On the other hand, since the incoming laser beam 3a is scattered in a separating agent 104 high in light scattering properties positioned under the serum 103, the light detection intensity at the part of the separating agent 104 becomes high. Further, since a part 3b of the scattered laser beam scattered by the separating agent 104 goes toward the upper interface 103U of the serum 103 and reflected by a meniscus 103A to be detected by the imaging device 4, light detection intensity becomes specifically high at the position of the upper interface 103U of the serum 103 and a peak appears.
