<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water heater capable of easily mounting an additional hot water storage tank on site. <P>SOLUTION: This water heater comprises a main hot water storage tank 3a for storing the hot water heated by a heat source, and a high hot water level detecting means A and a low hot water level detecting means B for detecting the quantity of remaining hot water in the main hot water storage tank 3a, and the operation of the heat source is controlled on the basis of the quantity of hot water. An additional hot water storage tank 3b is mounted. A top part of the additional hot water storage tank 3b is connected with a bottom part of the main hot water storage tank 3a to supply the hot water from the top part of the main hot water storage tank 3a. One of the detecting means of the main hot water storage tank 3a is used as the low hot water level detecting means B.
