A vegetation pruning device includes a pair (14, 16) of pivotally coupled handles and a motor having a rotary output drive for driving an endless flexible cutting chain (8). A guard is moved relative to the chain (8) by means of pivoting of the handles (14, 16) relative to each other to grip vegetation between the guard and the chain (8). The rotary output drive of the motor is arranged generally coaxially with the axis of pivotal movement of the handles (14, 16).
