PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture reader by which a low brightness- and low power consumption-light source is utilized; and weight saving and low profile for a slider unit are achieved. SOLUTION: The picture reader 1 of the present invention has: document glass 10 mounting a document; and a reflecting mirror 11 facing across the document glass 10 and placed on the side opposite the document, and moves the reflecting mirror 11 in parallel with the document glass 10 to read the picture of the document. The picture reader 1 also has an electroluminescent light source 20 (a light emitting layer and a transparent electrode layer radiating the light emitting layer on a region base) placed in the document glass 10. A photoelectric conversion element 12 receives a reflected light obtained by reflecting light from the electroluminescent light source 20 by the document to obtain picture information.
