<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and inexpensive method by improving conventional poorness of yield in a dehydration step of a benzyl alcohol derivative used in a production process of a liquid crystal material. <P>SOLUTION: The production method involves reacting bis(trichloromethyl) carbonate with a benzyl alcohol derivative represented by general formula (1) or (3) to provide a phenylcyclohexene derivative or a styrene derivative represented by general formula (2) or (4). The production method is useful as a production step of a liquid crystal compound because the phenylcyclohexene derivative or the styrene derivative can be obtained in high yield and in high purity. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
