PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for reading/erasing radiographic image information, which can efficiently perform a reading process and an erasing process for stimulable phosphor panels held in a plurality of cassettes. SOLUTION: The cassette 12 is carried from a cassette charging part 38 to a separation part 49 via a stock part 48. After feeding the stimulable phosphor panel 14 to a reading part 52 by a lock release mechanism 34 and a panel discharging mechanism 36, the cassette 12 is carried to the lower part of an erasing part 64 and waits there. The stimulable phosphor panel 14 whose radiographic image information has been read by the reading part 52 is carried to the erasing part 64 where the residual radiographic image information is erased. The stimulable phosphor panel 14 is then housed in the waiting cassette 12 and is stocked in a cassette discharging part 40. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
