PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently and stably producing polyphenylene ether excellent in solvent resistance and heat resistance while the generation of fine powder and scale is suppressed. SOLUTION: The production method of polyphenylene ether comprises performing oxidation coupling of a specific structure-having mixture phenol compounds in the presence of a catalyst, in a mixture solvents comprising at least one good solvent of polyphenylene ether with at least one poor solvent of the polyphenylene ether, by using an oxygen-containing gas, and precipitating and yielding a polymer, wherein, the polymerization temperature is increased after sediment precipitation.
