PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device capable of preventing or suppressing a detection error of a steered angle of tire wheels even when a vehicle travels on a road, a surface of which affects to the traveling direction of the vehicle. SOLUTION: The steering device includes a steering gear ratio variable mechanism 30 for varying a steering gear ratioα/γbetween a steering angleαof a steering wheel 11 and the steered angleγof the tire wheels 13a and 13b. The device includes a road surface condition determining means 61 for determining whether the road surface condition affects to the traveling direction of the vehicle, and a steering gear ratio controlling means 62 for controlling the steering gear ratioα/γwhen it is determined by the road surface condition determining means 61 that the road surface condition affects to the traveling direction of the vehicle, so that a rotation of the steering wheel 11 to move the tire wheels 13a and 13b at a maximum steered angle on one side to an opposite maximum steered angle on the other side becomes one revolution.
