Typical base materials are low alloy Mn 1.2-1.5% steels, and the material deposited is in the form of rod or strip of compsn. 0.35-0.6% Mn, 0.19 max C; 0.3% max Si; 0.1 max Cr; 0.03% max P + S. The powder for submerging the arc is 41-43% SiO2; 40-46% MnO; 4.5% CaO and 4-5% CaF2. Other alloying elements may be present both in the powder and filler metals dependent on the compsn. of the bare material.
