Designed as a licker-in for carding, the spirals extend from the ends of the roller, against each other towards the centre, at a rate of 4-12 turns per inch when used for cotton. The purpose is to ensure maximum efficiency of the carding and air stream actions to work the fibres and separate them from the teeth.
