1313140 Valves DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 1 July 1970 [3 July 1969] 33546/69 Heading F2V [Also in Division F1] In apparatus which comprises a reservoir 1 having a vent 7, delivering coolant 47 through a tube 13 and flexible line 15 to a device 17, the vent 7 is closed by an electro-mechanically actuated valve which comprises a solenoid 23 and a spring-biased lever 27. When a sensing element 19 in the device 17 is not being cooled an electrical bridge 21 sends a signal through an amplifier 25 to actuate the solenoid 23, thereby attracting an armature 31 on the lever 27 and thus closing the vent 7 by a seal 35. Heat entering the reservoir 1 causes the pressure above the coolant to increase thus forcing coolant through the tube 13 and line 15 to the device 17. On subsequent cooling of the element 19 the bridge 21 is re-balanced and the solenoid 23 is deenergized thus opening the vent 7. The pressure then decreases, the flow of coolant stops and eventually the element 19 becomes warmer with consequential closing of the vent 7. This cycle continues until the reservoir 1 is exhausted. Should the pressure in the reservoir 1 become too great the valve acts as a relief valve and the seal 35 is blown from the vent 7, the pressure overcoming the attractive force of the solenoid 23. |
