1412612 Electro-photography EASTMAN KODAK CO 3 Nov 1972 [4 Nov 1971 20 Dec 1971] 50700/72 Heading G2H [Also in Division D2] A method of forming a print-out image comprises applying an electrical potential across a sensitive material comprising an electrically conductive support bearing a layer comprising a photo-sensitive crystalline compound containing at least two conjugated acetylenic groups and causing current to flow in the image areas. The invention also comprises sensitive print-out materials comprising an electrically conductive support and a layer comprising a photo-sensitive crystalline compound containing at least two conjugated acetylenic groups, and in said layer or in a layer contiguous thereto, a photo-conductive composition. A thin protective layer e.g. of gelatine or polyvinyl alcohol may be applied over the electrosensitive layer of the print-out materials, and the photosensitivity of the polyyne compound may be reduced by incorporating a U.V absorbent in the polyyne layer, or as a separate overcoat. Where the sensitive print-out material includes a photoconductive composition, image formation may be effected by application of an electrical potential across the polyyne compound and photoconductive layer(s) while exposing the material imagewise to radiation to which the photoconductive composition is sensitive. In a further embodiment of the invention, a print-out image is formed by (a) placing an element comprising an electrically conductive support bearing a layer of a photo-sensitive crystalline compound containing at least two conjugated acetylenic groups in faceto-face contact with an element comprising an electrically conductive support bearing a layer of a photo-conductive composition; (b) imagewise exposing the photo-conductive layer to radiation to which it is sensitive while applying an electrical potential across the photo-conductive and polyacetylenic compound layers, and (c) separating the two elements. Many examples of suitable polyyne compounds, photo-conductors, binders and sensitizers for use therewith, and electrically conductive supports are given. |
