Commercial bismuth phosphomolybdate catalyst on silica carrier, of average particle size 0.04-0.1 mm., modified by kneading into the powdery mass a volume of 0.1-4 (0.25-2.5) molar Fe (III)-nitrate aq. equivalent to 1-2.5 times the pre-determined pore volume of the powder, amounting to 100-600 (300-450) ml. per 1 kg. of catalyst. The damp mass is slowly dried at 120-250 degrees C. with simultaneous decomposition of the Fe salt to iron oxide and it is then sintered at 600-700 degrees C., until the required specific surface area of 4-20 m2./g. is obtd. Used and exhausted bismuth phosphomolybdate/silica catalyst may also be submitted to this treatment. |
