<p>Process comprises heating a mixture of paraldehyde and ammonia aqs. soln., if necessary with alcohol and ammonium salt in the presence of Cu (II) cpd. under pressure. In the absence of divalent copper cpd., resultant pyridines are mostly 2-methyl-5-ethylpyridine and little alpha-picolline is yielded. In the presence of divalent copper cpd., yield of alpha-picolline increases. Amt. of catalyst as metal is >0.5 mols. amt. of paraldehyde. Pref. 0.5-3 mols. excess are used.</p> |
