1326508 Milling cutters INGERSOLL MASCHINEN UND WERKSEUGE GmbH 9 Aug 1971 [28 Aug 1970] 37291/71 Heading B3K In a milling cutter each tungsten carbide cutting insert 15, comprises four alternative main cutting edges 23-26 Fig. 2, 3, and four alternative secondary cutting edges 29, 32, each of which meets with and is inclined to one of the main cutting edges, two clearance faces 21, 22, at each end of the insert having an abutment surface 27, 28, therebetween which is substantially at right angles to the main cutting edges. Each insert is located in a pocket 9 Fig. 1, in the cutter body by abutment faces 37, 38, formed by plates 48, 52, the screws 41 and 53 for the insert and plate respectively being arranged to bend when tightened so as to urge the plate and the insert into a corner. The plate 52, and the insert are adapted to be indexed and the insert 13 also adapted to be turned over, so as to selectively provide various cutting edges and abutment surfaces to compensate for wear. All of the cutting edges can be sharpened without reducing the width or length of the insert, so that the setting positions of the insert do not vary. |
