1329138 Corrosion inhibition DREW CHEMICAL CORP 11 Nov 1970 [12 Nov 1969] 53680/70 Heading C7E A corrosion-inhibiting composition comprises at least one each of (a) where X = H or C 1 -C 6 alkyl, M = H, NH 4 , or alkali metal, Z is m = 1-6, A is nothing or a C 1 -C 6 hydrocarbyl group, and when 6 C atoms are present they may be as alkylene, cycloalkylene or arylene group each with the requisite number of H atoms, and q = 1 or 0 (b) a boric or phosphoric acid ester (c) a water-soluble chelating agent and (d) a soluble divalent metal compound. Compound (a) is typically N- alkyl sulphonylglycine, N-p-toluene sulphonylglycine or glycine, and 50 to 89À5 parts by weight may be present per 100 parts of composition. Component (b) is prepared by reacting phosphoric or boric acid with an alcohol, phenol, glycol, ethanolamine or ethoxylated acid; 7À5-30 parts are used. Compound (c) may be a carboxylic amine compound, e.g. EDTA, a hydroxypolycarboxylic acid, e.g. citric, tartaric, gluconic, glucohep tonic, or saccharic, a nitrilopolyacetic acid or an aminoalkylphosphonic acid, 2À5-15 parts, and (d) may be a compound of Zn, Cd, Cu, Ni or Sr, 0À5-5 parts per 100. The composition may be dispersed in oil, or may be added to industrial cooling water, nuclear reactor coolant, heat exchanger water, or may be coated, optionally in an adhering medium, on parts of ships; corrosion of stainless steel, mild steel, Cu, Al, brass, and intermetallic joints may be inhibited.
