The input data, relating to dimensions and nature of a plate to be rolled, finished gauge, pass speeds and acceleration, are stored when the plate passes through the last stand of a coarse mill not shown. An acceleration control apparatus 2 determines a particular acceleration schedule and derives roll gap and roll peripheral speed patterns. A differential function generator 3 from the roll patterns for each stand and determines the time variation between roll gaps and roll speeds at each stand. Commands are then fed to screw-down motors via a signal distributor and roll drive motors whereby an anticipatory control of roll gaps and roll peripheral speeds is performed during acceleration of the rolling operation.</p> |
