<p>1331088 Purifying amine solvents FALCONBRIDGE NICKEL MINES Ltd 5 Nov 1970 [12 Dec 1969] 52645/70 Heading C2C [Also in Division C1] The invention comprises a process for treating an acidic metal-bearing aqueous chloride solution, containing copper anionic chloride complex, for removal of copper therefrom, comprising bringing the solution into contact with an amine solvent for copper anionic chloride complex dissolved in a substantially waterimmiscible organic carrier liquid, extracting copper into the solvent in the organic carrier liquid, separating the organic carrier liquid containing the copper-bearing solvent from the aqueous solution, bringing the separated organic carrier liquid containing the copper-bearing solvent into contact with an aqueous stripping solution, stripping copper into the stripping solution thereby depleting the copper-bearing solvent in the organic carrier liquid of copper, separating the organic carrier liquid containing the copper depleted solvent from the stripping solution, and re-using said liquid for treating fresh quantities of the acidic copper-bearing aqueous chloride solution, the improvement in the step of depleting the solvent of copper comprising bringing the separated organic carrier liquid containing the copper-bearing solvent into contact with an aqueous stripping solution having a soluble peroxide dissolved therein. Suitable amine solvents are secondary and tertiary amines and quaternary ammonium compounds in which the organic radicals are alkyl, aryl, alkaryl or aralkyl (or may be unsaturated) of 1-20 carbon atoms, the total number of carbon atoms present being 8-40. Specified amines are triiso-octylamine, N- dodecenyl (trialkylmethyl) amine, N - lauryl- (trialkylmethyl) amine, tricaprylamine and methyl tricaprylammonium chloride. Suitable organic carrier liquids are "Solvesso" (Registered Trade Mark), aromatic hydrocarbons and chlorinated hydrocarbons. Specified peroxides are hydrogen peroxide and sodium peroxide.</p> |
