<p>1330475 Feeding extruders; cutting strip material CONTINENTAL GUMMI-WERKE AG 8 Dec 1970 [9 Dec 1969] 58170/70 Headings B4B and B5A [Also in Division B1] In apparatus wherein pieces are cut transversely from an intermittently fed continuous strip 4 of rubber, plastics, or plastics material mixture, to fall directly on to a roller or endless conveyer 13 for transportation into the hopper 10 of a processing machine, e.g. a screw extruder having an extrusion orifice and the barrel 8 whereof is provided with a heating or cooling jacket 8, the absence of a cut piece is sensed within the hopper 10 by pneumatic, electrical, photo-electric, or mechanical means which initiates a feeding cycle comprising the transverse cutting of a piece by a blade 15, followed by the intermittent advance, for subsequent cutting, of a further variably adjustable length of strip 4 from a roll or folded stack 5 thereof, by means of a driven roller 14 against which the strip 4 is pressed by a spring or pressure cylinder loaded idler roller 12. The cut strip within the hopper 10 is fed into engagement with the screw 9 by a pressure means actuated ram, or by a contra rotating roller located alongside the screw. The blade 15 performs a cutting movement in both a downward and transverse direction which is effected together with a similar return movement, from a double acting power cylinder 20, via guide levers 19 to which it is freely suspended. The advancing movement of roller 14 is effected from limit switches actuated upon the return movement of the blade 15.</p> |
