PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide smectite-coated silica particles endowed sufficiently with functions intrinsic to smectite such as metal adsorption functions, etc. and having improved handling properties for separation and recovery operations and a method for manufacturing the same.SOLUTION: The provided manufacturing method comprises a step of agitating an admixture of an aqueous suspension of silica particles, a compound for feeding elements constituting smectite, and an alkali, a generation step of generating smectite on the surfaces of the silica particles by housing, within a hermetic container, and heating the admixture prevailing upon the completion of agitation, and a recovery step of obtaining core-shell particles wherein smectite is deposited on the surfaces of the silica particles by separating and recovering a solid product from the admixture prevailing upon the completion of the generation step and then drying the separated and recovered solid product. |
