Electroslag casting moulds - not subject to deformation of the mould walls

Electro-slag casting ingot mould cooled by a suitable liquid, for casting straight side or >600 mm radius curve sided or 1200 mm dia. circular cross-section ingots, has walls reinforced by spaced vertical ribs fixed to the outer surfaces of the walls. Thermal expansion of the walls is contained, or limited to local bending of the walls between adjacent ribs. This allows large ingots to be cast without ingot mould wall deformation, causing difficulties in stripping the ingot.
