Light water pool type reactor fuelling facility - utilising dual purpose fuel element skip

Reactor fuel changing facility partic. applicable to light water pool type reactors comprises a travelling gantry (I) equipped with a telescopic mast and fuel element manipulator and a rotatable vertically adjustable skip hoist. (I) surmounts and travels over an integral construction of two water-filled tanks with an interconnecting gate. Skip stored new fuel in the storage tank is transferred by (I) to the fuel changing tank above the reactor. The telescopic mast with manipulator transfers the new fuel to the reactor and irradiated fuel to the skip which is then taken to the storage bag. An advantageous reduction in fuel changing time is effected by the dual purpose skip.
