<p>1308270 Phenylhydrazones UPJOHN CO 14 Oct 1971 [27 Nov 1970] 47889/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises cyclic and non- cyclic ketols and thioketols of glyoxyloyl halide 1-phenyl hydrazones having the formula wherein R is an alkyl having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, holoalkyl having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl having 3 to 10 carbon atoms, phenylalkyl having 7 to 12 carbon atoms, phenyl, and substituted phenyl having 6 to 12 carbon atoms selected from alkyl phenyl having 7 to 12 carbon atoms, alkoxy phenyl having 7 to 12 carbon atoms, halophenyl and combinations of alkyl, alkoxy and halo groups on the phenyl ring; the X's are independently oxygen, sulphur, sulphinyl or sulphonyl; Ra and Rb are each alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or taken together form an alkyl-substituted or unsubstituted ethylene or trimethylene group; Y is selected from halogen, alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, haloalkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, alkoxy having 1 to 4 carbon atoms and alkymercapto having 1 to 4 carbon atoms; n is zero or an integer from 1 to 5 and Z is chlorine or bromine. They may be prepared by halogenating a 4-R-2,3,4-triketone 3-phenylhydrazone with an alkyl or alkaline earth metal hypohalite to obtain the corresponding 3-halo- 3-phenylazo-4-R-2,4-diketone and hydrolysing the latter to obtain an R-glyoxyloyl halide 1-phenylhy drazone wherein R is alkyl, haloalkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyalkyl, phenyl or substituted phenyl. The compounds of the invention may be used in the control of arthropod pests.</p> |
