<p>An agitator comprising a rotary shaft fitted with outlying springs, anchored between the end of the shaft and a sliding collar which allows the springs to deflect radially as the shaft spins, as in the parent patent, is improved by use of a bulge on the shaft to restrict the travel of the sliding collar towards the end of the shaft, which is pref. made of stainless steel and coated with 'Teflon' (RTM), glass or "Kel F' (RTM). Thge lateral elements pref. comprise flexible strips of PTFE. Excessive travel of sliding collar and consequent stable entanglement of the outlying springs or paddles is avoided and subsequent withdrawal of the stirrer is inhibited. Non-metallic components offer corrosion resistance and lower wear of swept surfaces.</p> |
