Provided are a wheelchair that allows a user to sit on a western style toilet seat or the like easily while seated in the wheelchair and a method for using wheelchairs. A wheelchair comprises: bilateral clamps, a backrest, and knee back clamps for moving in the vertical direction; and an opening-closing type seat face that can form a prescribed opening. The bilateral clamps are fixed to the backrest, and the knee back clamps are formed on the upper surface of a seat face frame member fixed to the bottom of the backrest. Furthermore, the seat face frame member has one prescribed jack column, serving as a driving mechanism for raising and lowering, on each side of the seat face frame member. The jacks are coupled to each other with a timing belt in a row in the front-to-rear direction of the wheelchair. |
