PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-size projector including two light modulation devices optically connected in series.SOLUTION: A projector 1 includes an optical unit 4 for forming an image; and the optical unit 4 includes an illumination device 41, an image light modulation device 46 for modulating the light emitted from the illumination device 41, and a dimming device LA1 disposed on an optical path between the illumination device 41 and the image light modulation device 46. The dimming device LA1 includes: a dimming light modulation device 42 for modulating the light emitted from the illumination device 41; a reflective relay device 44 for imaging the modulated light by the dimming light modulation device 42 onto the image light modulation device 46; a polarization separation device 43 for guiding the modulated light incident from the dimming light modulation device 42 to the relay device 44 and allowing the modulated light reflected by the relay device 44 to emit toward the image light modulation device 46; and a λ/4 plate 45 disposed between the polarization separation device 43 and the relay device 44.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
