Optical homing head for a projectile - has swivelling mirrors for deflecting target radiation on a receiver

The homing head has a mirror, able to rotate about the elevation and azimuth axis. Radiation arriving from the target is deflected on the receiver which in turn is connected to the image analyser for determining the direction and the position of the target. The main mirror is mounted on a universal joint and between the main mirror and receiver are arranged two deflecting mirrors which are fixed rigidly in relation to the longitudinal axis of the assembly. When the homing head is directed towards the target then the radiation is deflected on the receiver. The scanning angle of this homing head is increased significantly and covers 180 deg. This homing head can be used in air to air missiles.
