1423837 Coloured polyolefin articles IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 3 Oct 1973 [9 Oct 1972] 46406/72 Heading C3P Coloured shaped articles of olefin polymers containing a minor proportion by weight of a thermoplastic polyester as a multiplicity of small particles or fibrils distributed throughout the article, wherein the colouring matter is soluble in the polyester and is carried substantially wholly within and throughout only the polyester particles or fibrils, may be prepared by mixing the polyester and colouring matter, separately or together, with the polyolefin and shaping the resulting composition. The polymer may be derived from ethylene, propylene, 4- methylpentene-1 or vinyl chloride. The polyester may be an ethylene terephthalate homopolymer or copolymer with units derived from other diols and dibasic acids. The dyestuffs may be a disperse or solvent dye. The compositions may be shaped by melt extrusion into films and filaments which may be oriented by stretching. Examples describe the extrusion of filaments from compositions comprising (1 and 2) polypropylene, polyethylene terephthalate, titanium dioxide and dyestuffs; and the formation of extrusion coatings from compositions comprising (3 and 4) polyethylene, copoly- (ethylene terephthalate/ethylene adipate) and dyestuff. |
