Apparatus for producing laminates requiring the application of heat

The process of laminating a flexible thermoplastics sheet to a rigid base sheet using a thermoplastic adhesive which is heat activated wherein a web like electrical element is applied to the sheets whilst they are clamped in a laminating press, the power input for the heating process requiring an electrical input of from 4 KVA to 12 KVA per square foot of element which is applied for a period of 4 seconds to 18 seconds. One of the platens is cooled to serve as a heat sink so that during heating heat flows not into the laminate, but also into the heat sink, and after the input power is removed, the laminate remains clampled for a cooling period whilst heat flows from the laminate into the heat sink.
