Continuous expansion of expansible material - by subjecting to flowing pressurised gas and withdrawing through outlet

Expansible material, e.g.fibrous material or oriented plastic material, is expanded continuously by (a) continuously introducing the material into a stationary chamber, (b) maintaining the material in the chamber under a pressurised flowing gas or vapour, and (c) continuously withdrawing the material through an outlet in the housing so the gas pressure on the material decreases at such a rate that on leaving the outlet the gas or vapour escapes from the material and expands the material. Rapid efficient and economical expansion of a wide range of materials is possible.
