The ram of the mechanical press is driven by the electrical linear motor. This motor has solenoids and at the input of one reference unit the signal is fed from the output of the inductive ram speed transducer and the cutter input receives a signal from the other reference unit. The secondary system of the linear motor of the press is used as the armature which has the shape of a disc or a cylinder. The first reference unit generates a command signal to the control system of the press as soon as the parameters of the signal of the output of inductive speed transducers coincide with the parameters of the signal from the output of the specified value unit. When the ram has reached the specified speed the linear motor is stopped. The return speed can also be regulated.
