The process of fixing small end panels (2) onto rectangular sheets (1) forming cages contg. stones and utilized to retain river banks etc. uses two panels which are about a quarter of the length of the basic rectangular sheet (1). Heavier gauge wires (4) form box edge wires with infill mesh forming a diamond lattice work with longitudinally zig-zagging and intertwining wires. The process involves the mechanical tying of the panel ends onto the basic sheet. Pairs of projecting mesh wires (3) are press positioned traversing on opposed sides of the wire (4) and successive machine operations twist the wires together and then return the loose ends to lie over the entwined length.
