The novel microporous light-diffusing layer is prepared by dissolving two polymers in a solvent mixture, forming a film from the soln. obtained and drying the film to obtain a pptn. of one of these polymers in the other which is gellified. White microporous light-difusing layers are obtained without the need of a pigment. The layers find use in the prepn. of supports for photographic flms, for chromatography, detection of ultrasonics, prepn. of piezosensitive, heat -sensitive and photo-sensitive layers if one of the polymers is photosensitive, etc.
